Gut Research

Gut Research is a research group that is part of the Tytgat Institute for Liver and Intestinal Research, and the Dept. of Gastroenterology at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam. We are a group of research fellows, master students, basic researchers and physicians that hope to bridge basic research and drug development.

We are dedicated to understanding more of the mechanisms of functional and inflammatory intestinal diseases, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Esophagitis, Reflux Disease, or Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). In particular we believe that the nervous system, and psychological factors, are important elements in these diseases. With our research we hope to better understand how the brain alters the immune system.

To study this, we have a variety of models and assays to mimic the disease and realize a better treatment options. These are found on this Gut Research site.

Gut Research is strong in its interactions between the clinic, the lab, and industrial partners, so we can generate state of the art research, and innovative ideas to optimize treatment for patients.
